Royal Albert Memorial Museum and Art Gallery
With a National Art Pass you get
Home to amazing artefacts from across Japan, China, Egypt, Korea and the Indian subcontinent.
Part of the University of Durham, the museum was founded due to the need to house an increasing collection of artefacts used by the School of Oriental Studies.
The museum holds more than 23,500 Asian objects, including works of art, textiles, fashion and domestic goods.
Of particular note are its Chinese and Egyptian collections, which have been designated as being of 'national and international importance' by the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council.
Rooms celebrating Korean and Japanese culture were opened in 2013, featuring contemporary Korean and Japanese material, Edo period wood block prints, anime movie cells, vintage kimonos and ceramics. The museum also purchased a completely new authentic set of Japanese samurai armour, made in traditional style.
